Thai Boxing in Phuket

I believe many friends are familiar with the sport of Thai boxing. In fact, Thai boxing is also the quintessence of Thai people’s pride. There are Thai Boxing schools in government departments and universities. Many TV stations have their live programs of Thai boxing. In some small provinces, children aged six or seven go to learn boxing after school and compete in the evening.

1. The origin and culture of Thai Boxing

Thai Boxing originated in the middle ages, when people used different weapons to fight and fight. In melee, almost all hands and feet are used together. Today’s Thai Boxing has a lot of rules and boxing gloves to protect themselves and their opponents. The headband on the boxer’s head, originally called auspicious band, is worn by the master for his apprentice, which means turning a bad luck into a good one.

At the beginning of the fight, the boxer will kneel down to the direction of his birth with the music, pay homage to the boxer outside the ring, and then dance a round of “teacher Worship Dance”. There are also some traditional culture in Thai Boxing, for example, women are forbidden to walk in the ring, the boxer master will make a blessing for him, and the boxer will take a small Buddha statue as an amulet. What is worth appreciating is that most Thai men know the moves of Thai boxing, and even some of them have played in competitions, but they are seldom brave and aggressive, which is worth learning. By the way, many of the Thai Boxing moves seen in the movies have become forbidden moves in competitions. You can only enjoy them through movies, VCDs and pictures if you want to see them. However, the authentic Thai boxing competition is still wonderful.
